Directors Carmen Jaquier and Jan Gassmann and main actress Dorothée De Koon are available for interviews in Berlin.

LES PARADIS DE DIANE (Paradises of Diane) by Carmen Jaquier and Jan Gassmann is celebrating its premiere in the Panorama section at the Berlin International Film Festival 2024.

LES PARADIS DE DIANE is the portrait of a woman at an existential moment in her life. Tackling the myth of the family, the film takes a closer look at the constraints and expectations associated with motherhood and being a woman.

SYNOPSIS
On a winter’s evening, a woman wanders through the busy streets of Benidorm. Diane is alone, with only a bag from the pharmacy in her arms. She has left behind Martin and her newborn
baby at the women’s clinic in Zurich. In the glow of the neon signs, Diane seems like a shadow moving to the beat of the city – a Mediterranean Las Vegas in decline. In this parallel world of all-inclusive tourists, revelers and eccentrics, Diane meets Rose. Without many words, these two strangers find their way to each other, a mutual adoption of two lonely souls. Far from home, Diane reconnects with her body and finds truth …

Carmen Jaquier (* 1985) studied film and screenwriting at ECAL in Lausanne and at HEAD Genève. Her diploma film The Girls’ Grave (2012) won the Silver Pardino in Locarno. Thunder, her first feature, premiered in Toronto in 2022, followed by San Sebastian, Busan and many others. It was Switzerland’s 2024 Oscar® submission.

Jan Gassmann (* 1983) studied film at HFF Munich. His first doc Chrigu premiered at the Berlinale in 2007. It was followed by award-winning features, among them Off Beat (Berlinale 2011), Europe, She Loves (Berlinale 2016), and 99 Moons which premiered in Cannes in the ACID section in 2022.

The main role is played by actress and musician Dorothée De Koon (Who Killed Bambi?, Children in Love, Didine). Her musical career began as a singer alongside Maxence Cyrin and tour member (keyboards and bass) of Arnaud Fleurent-Didier for his album La Reproduction. She collaborated with Lescop, Nicolas Godin, and Cabane and later returned to cinema – first as a music composer for Benjamin Nuel (Hotel 2) and Alain della Negra and Kaori Kinoshita (Bonheur Académie), and later as an actress in Carlos Franklin’s Home Glitch Home and Arnaud Fleurent-Didier’s Vénère (both in post-production).

LES PARADIS DE DIANE also features Aurore Clément who started her film career in Lacombe Lucien (1974) by Louis Malle. She later worked with acclaimed directors like Chantal Akerman, Mario Monicelli, Claude Chabrol, Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas), Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now), and in films by Bertrand Blier, Bertrand Bonello, and more recently by Luca Guadagnino.
The cast also includes Duncan Airlie James, world-class kickboxer, actor (Tomb Raider, ID2: Shadwell Army), and drummer of the hard rock band Nazareth, actor Roland Bonjour (Vater unser Wille geschehe, Systemsprenger), and actor, model and LGBT icon Omar Ayuso (Elite, Netflix series), and director and actress Stéphanie Lagarde (Feu mon corps!).
